Reconciling a Trust Account
This file will guide you through creating a Reconciliation.
You can choose to reconcile daily, weekly or monthly (monthly is the recommended period) however the system will keep a draft of your reconciliation until the end of the month. A reconciliation is the process of ensuring each item on your bank statement is correctly reflected in your Arosoftware account.

Please make sure you have your bank statement handy. Every transaction in the reconciliation must match your trust account bank statement
Creating a new Reconciliation
- From the Home Screen go to the 'Finance' menu then click on 'Reconciliations'
- If you have more than one trust account in the software, ensure the correct account is selected in the Trust Account dropdown
- Next you will need to Add a reconciliation for the month (If you don't already have a reconciliation for that month in draft)
- Enter the Period Start and Period End dates
- From your bank statement, enter the closing balance into the field; 'Statement Balance at Period End' (If you are creating the reconciliation prior to the end of the month, you can edit this amount later)
Always double check the end balance is exactly the same as on your trust account end of month statement. This is one of the most important steps to ensuring your reconciliation is in balance when complete.
- Tick the box to proceed to the reconciling page next
- Click Save
Checking the transactions
- You will now be taken into the bank reconciliation screen
- If you trust account has a balance, you will immediately notice a red discrepancy amount of your balance (As you continue your reconciliation, this discrepancy will reduce and should be zero when complete)
- Look at each item on your bank statement and make sure it is also in your Aro bank rec screen
- Once the transaction is confirmed and matches, tick the transaction off on the right

Go through each transaction in this way, confirming they are on your bank statement before ticking them off in Aro
If the reconciliation balances, you should have a $0.00 figure in the Discrepancy field. If not, ensure you entered the correct closing balance and carefully go through each transaction again. Only tick each item as you see it on your bank statement. If there are any missing transactions, they need adding into the software against the correct listing.
- There is an option to save the reconciliation as a Draft or Reconciled (Choose Draft during the month and Reconciled once the end of the month has passed)
- Click Save
If you are saving a bank reconciliation that ends the month, the software will automatically send an email to the user who processed the reconciliation with the reports that are required for your auditor

Please ensure that you store them in a secure location
You can also send a copy of the reports to another Aro user (If printing manually, use the download icon to print your Bank Reconciliation statement)
