Connecting your website to Google Maps

Connecting your website to Google Maps

This help article will step you through the process of connecting your Aro website to your Google Maps account.

Step 1. Sign into your Google Cloud account

To access your Google Maps account, you will need to sign into Google Cloud.

If you do not have an account already, you can simply click the Get Started for Free button at the top of the page and follow the sign up steps.

Once logged in, if you are not taken to the Dashboard, please use this link https://console.cloud.google.com/home/dashboard

Creating a Google Cloud account is also how you access your Google Analytics

Step 2. Create a new project

a. From the dashboard, click on the 'My First Project' button

b. Click the 'New Project' button

c. Enter a project name (the name of your website works best here), and then click 'Create'

d. This will create the new project for you. The next steps require you to be in this project, so make sure you are currently viewing the correct one. You will again need to click the 'My First Project' button and then select the project you just created

Step 3. Add API Services

The API Services are what powers this integration with Google Maps and your website. There are 3 API's that you will need to add to this project.
  1. Maps Javascript API
  2. Geolocation API
  3. Maps Static API
We have created a video below that shows you have to find and enable each of these API's

You can check if you have enabled all 3 of the API's by clicking the API tab and seeing the list under the 'Enabled APIs' heading

Step 4. Generate API Key

a. You will need to return to the Dashboard - https://console.cloud.google.com/home/dashboard. Again, make sure you are viewing the correct project

b. Open the API's & Services tab and select Credentials

c. Click the Create Credentials button and select API Key

d. The system will then generate an API key for you. This is a long string of alpha-numeric characters. Use the 'Copy' icon to copy this key and then email to support@arosoftware.com

You just need to 'Close' this once completed. Do not click Restrict Key.

If you do close this before saving the key, you can see it on the Credentials page under API keys
